Everyone needs a home where they can feel secure, live comfortably and be part of the community. We need to end unfair tax breaks, protect renters, invest in social housing and end homelessness.
Homes For All
Everyone needs a home where they can feel secure, live comfortably and be part of the community
The Liberal/National and Labor parties have set the rules so that buying a home or having decent rights when you rent is increasingly difficult for millions of us.
Right now, wealthier people are claiming tax deductions on their second, third or fourth house while young people, young families and those on lower incomes face a future where they may never own a home.
How much money you have shouldn’t determine whether or not you have a decent and stable place to live. With so many of us now locked out of home ownership, we need better protections for those of us who rent to make homes more affordable and provide secure rental options for the long-term.
The Greens are committed to dismantling the rigged system that privileges investors and landlords over the rest of us. Together we can make sure that an affordable home is a reality for everyone.
Unlike the Liberals, Nationals and Labor parties, the Australian Greens don’t rely on donations from property developers and property investors to fund our party.
That means the Greens Housing Plan puts communities and people before developer profit, to make sure that a secure home is a reality for all of us.
We’ll ease the market lock-out for first home buyers by ending the tax breaks that make it easier to buy your fifth home than your first
We’ll increase funding for service providers assisting people experiencing homelessness
Our plan will build 500,000 new homes to ease the shortfall of quality homes for over a million people
Our plan will provide people who rent with greater protections
against dodgy landlords
Level the playing field
The Greens will end the unfair tax breaks for wealthy people that have locked generations of Australians out of home ownership by targeting negative gearing, the capital gains tax discount and stamp duty.
Renting is a long-term reality for more people than ever before, but people who rent are getting a raw deal. We need better rights and protections for people who rent, to protect tenants’ security and safety.
No one should find themselves with nowhere to go. There is a shortfall of at least 500,000 affordable homes in Australia. We will ensure all people have access to stable and affordable housing.
On average more than 100,000 Australians are homeless each night – more than a quarter are children under the age of 18. We will increase funding & support for homelessness services nationwide.

We’ve all been there: a dodgy rental, a nightmare landlord, a lack of affordable properties, being priced out by investors or only being able to afford a shoebox.
The Greens’ plan will address these issues by ending the tax breaks that contribute to a lack of affordable housing, provide people who rent with greater protections against dodgy landlords, invest in bigger, more diverse public and community housing sectors and increase funding for service providers assisting people experiencing homelessness.
